As a Certified School Health Nurse, for the last 12 years, I was a Psychiatric RN in the SC State Dept of Mental Health, primarily working with children and adolescents, most recently with adults again until forced to retire after an auto accident and traumatic brain injury in 2008. God does have a sense of humor because it also resulted in major depression! Still doing some counseling at church--just can't do the paperwork or multi-task; memory and words fail me at times also. But I am writing a lot about this experience, and others; so, I am hopeful that even if I do not regain what I have lost, I will be able to use what is left in new ways to still help others with the struggles they go through on a daily basis just to make it from one day to the next. It is sometimes quite the celebration just to sit up, and decide to tackle the day once again for some folks. I celebrate that I had that next day after the wreck and that I am still able to function to the degree that I am. Others have not had that grace. Update October 2014 Just found out that my best HS friend has passed away.
